In Australia, we are so lucky to have so many incredible caravan road trip destinations, from coastal drives along incredible surf beaches to exploring the wonders of the Aussie outback. We’ve done the research for you, and picked out the 5 best caravan holiday destinations every caravanner should go on:

Sydney to Brisbane – 1,050 km | 5 – 9 days

If you are looking for a one to two-week caravan road trip, we highly recommend the drive from Sydney to Brisbane. Along the way, there are so many awesome landmarks and natural phenomena that you can check out. Explore the luscious valleys of Bellingen, the myriad waterways of Myall Lakes, the ultimate wine tour location that is the Hunter Valley and even Wollemi National Park. You could also drop by for a swim and surf at the popular beaches in Byron Bay and pay a visit to Nimbin while you’re there. With so much to do along the way, there’s a good chance you might end up extending your caravan holiday a little bit to allow for more stopovers and day trips.

Melbourne to Adelaide – 1,500 km | 7 – 12  days

Taking the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne to Adelaide is almost exactly what you expect it to be; This road trip reveals stunning ocean views around every bend, with picturesque coastal towns and awesome beaches for you to stop by and have a surf. Other than the incredible views along the way making the drive itself a highlight, you could pay a visit to some of the several wine regions, explore the glow worm caves and ancient forests of the Great Otway National Park, check out the Twelve Apostles and head over the Kangaroo Island to admire their awesome wildlife. Doing this road trip in a caravan gives you the luxury of taking your time at the destinations that take you by surprise, and moving at your own pace. We seriously can’t get enough of the Great Ocean Road road trip.

Coffs Harbour to Armidale – 191 km | 1 day

If you get the chance to go on the scenic drive best known as the Waterfall Way, do it. This short but incredible touring route will take you inland from the Pacific Highway past several spectacular national parks including New England and Cathedral Rock. Dorrigo National Park is infamous for its beautiful waterfalls, offering a peaceful escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of any urban town or city. Although this is only a short drive, there are so many incredible nature paths to take, so it is definitely one worth repeating a few times to tick off more of your caravan road trip bucket list.

Cairns to Townsville and Townsville to Airlie Beach 575 km | 3 days

An incredible coastal drive between two World Heritage-listed regions, this caravan road trip will take you to Mission Beach with its beautiful laidback sandy beaches and Hinchinbrook Island with swimming holes and waterfalls galore. Take a dive in the Great Barrier Reef and experience the Worlds’ largest coral reef system first hand, with incredible sea life everywhere. And on the other end of your adventure, go on scenic hikes through the rainforest-clad mountains of the Wet Tropics. This one is a road trip that you won’t want to end (so maybe make it 6 days instead of 3, hey?).

South Sydney to Wollongong 140 km | 1 day

The infamous Grand Pacific Drive will take you on a 140km coastal drive past sparkling beaches and picturesque coastal towns from South of Sydney to Wollongong. Along your caravan road trip, take some time to stop by and explore the Royal National Park and be stunned as you drive across the breathtaking Sea Cliff Bridge in Clifton. Take your caravan up to Bald Hill Lookout and sit in comfort as you watch hang gliders appear weightless as they take advantage of the incredible ocean breeze from sunrise to sunset. A short caravan trip that will leave you with an absolute taste for more Australian road trips.
